PRAGUE (DIY Beauty Tips) By FRIENDLYADVICE CONSULT Looking to reduce your beauty budget? Want to have glowing skin, shiny hair, and a fresh complexion without using products full of ingredients you can't pronounce, much less identify? Get thee to the cupboards for DIY hair and skin treatments you can whip up yourself! But before you head to the kitchen, remember: NEVER use anything on your hair or skin that you have a known allergy to. DIY: Hair Treatments Whether you have over processed hair that needs moisture fast, or dull, limp locks that need serious cleansing, your kitchen cabinet has the ingredients for DIY hair treatments. Dry, damaged, or processed hair can regain its shine when you use olive
oil as a moisturizing treatment. Just comb olive oil through clean, wet hair, paying special attention to the ends, cover with a shower cap, and leave on at least 30 minutes before shampooing out. Olive oil is also a good remedy for dry, scaly patches on the scalp, and for dry hair with dandruff. If your locks have lost their luster, or are just plain dirty, try a clarifying baking soda shampoo. Add a little baking soda to your regular shampoo to get hair that is clean and shiny without overdrying. For extremely oily hair, use baking soda with your shampoo every other time you wash. DIY: Facial Treatments Turns out that the things that are best for your body are also best for your skin--who would have thought, right? The oatmeal and avocado that are good for your diet will also give you healthy, glowing skin. For an exfoliating scrub that's natural, mix equal parts fine oatmeal and honey. Dampen skin, and massage gently with the oatmeal-honey mixture. Rinse off. Great for all skin types, and gentle, too! If your skin is oily, try a Milk of Magnesia mask. Simply apply Milk of Magnesia with a cotton ball, allow to dry, then rinse.
Dry skin loves super-rich avocado. Mash the flesh of an avocado until it is creamy in consistency, then apply to skin and leave on for at least 15 minutes before rinsing. DIY: Skin Care Rough elbows and knees are no match for a scrub made of equal parts table salt and olive oil. Just massage into your scaly parts and rinse. Keep that olive oil near the shower--it makes a great moisturizer, as well. Petroleum jelly will soften even the driest hands and feet, and if you are prone to razor burn, apply it while skin is still damp to seal in moisture and seal out those pesky bumps
